In its original development, Transworld was licensed to and created a national long distance telephone carrier network in the Soviet Union, with traffic carried via satellite, and partnered with Lockheed Martin - then Qualcomm - and subsequently Leap Wireless, a Qualcomm spin off. The Patent for the satellite and the network now belong to Transworld.
