Transworld Corporate Responsibility Day 2020

To celebrate the spirit of volunteering, Transworld Corporate Responsibility Day is celebrated on 28th April 2020. The day is marked to pay homage to our founder, Shri R Sivaswamy. His belief in giving back to society is one of the foundational values of the Transworld Group. All the Transworld-ites come together to volunteer on the CR Day on the theme of the year and contribute in making a difference. The theme for the second Annual CR Day this year was to extend a helping hand to empower the disadvantaged elderly.

In 2019, there were an estimated 703 million persons aged 65 years globally – of which about 106 million were in India (UN & HelpAge India). A 2015-16 ‘All India Senior Citizens Confederation’ survey showed 39% had been either abandoned or living alone. The current situation of pandemic Covid-19 has put the elderly at high health risks and heightened their sense of loneliness.

We partnered with HelpAgeIndia to support the elderly living in old age homes. While the current situation brought in challenges for going out and volunteering, it also provided us with the opportunity to strengthen our value of helping people in need with more compassion. To mark the day, 8 digital volunteering sessions were conducted with 5 old age homes in India in the states of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Goa, and Punjab, reaching out to around 250 beneficiaries with the support of more than 100 volunteers along with family members from all across India and our global locations. The sessions included breathing exercises, yoga, sharing of experience, sing-along, papercraft, building emotional strength conducted by our volunteers engaging the elderly people. The sessions were full of interaction, learning, stories, and sharing of joy & happiness. We are also supporting these homes with their essential supplies with the support of the NGO partner.
