Shreyas Shipping & Logistics Limited - Efficient Ship-to-Ship Operations for Car Nicobar Airstrip Construction
Shreyas Shipping & Logistics Limited (SSLL) successfully executed a complex logistical project involving the transportation of construction materials in support of a critical development project. This case study details the meticulous planning and execution of seven consecutive Ship-to-Ship (STS) operations conducted between October 2023 and March 2024.
Project Scope: The project involved transporting construction materials from Visakhapatnam (Vizag) port to Car Nicobar Island for the restoration of an airstrip. Due to limitations at Car Nicobar's harbor, a direct discharge from the supplying vessel, M.V. SSL Sabarimalai, was not feasible. SSLL devised a solution utilizing STS operations to efficiently transfer the cargo to barges for final delivery to the island.
Challenge: Remote Location: Car Nicobar Island's remoteness presented logistical challenges in coordinating and executing the STS operations.
Limited Harbor Infrastructure: The lack of proper harbor facilities at Car Nicobar necessitated the STS transfers.
Manual Offloading: The absence of mechanized offloading equipment on the barges required manual unloading, demanding a skilled and dedicated workforce.
Sea Conditions: Ensuring safe and efficient cargo transfer during STS operations amidst variable sea conditions was crucial.
SSLL's Solution: SSLL's expertise in maritime operations and commitment to client satisfaction ensured the project's success. Here's how we tackled the challenges:
Meticulous Planning: SSLL meticulously planned the ship-to-ship (STS) operations, considering factors like weather forecasts, tides, and cargo weight distribution.
Experienced Crew: A highly skilled and experienced crew aboard M.V. SSL Sabarimalai ensured safe and efficient cargo handling throughout the STS transfers.
Manual Labor Expertise: SSLL employed a dedicated team of professionals for the manual offloading of cargo from the barges to the site.
Real-time Monitoring: Continuous monitoring of weather conditions and operational progress ensured timely adjustments and maintained safety protocols.
Outcome: Transworld Group's successful management of the logistics for the Sharjah Warriors cricket team during the International League T20 in UAE demonstrated our ability to enter and excel in the sports logistics market. The partnership was a success, and the Sharjah Warriors team expressed their satisfaction with the quality of services provided by us.
The company's entry into sports logistics opened a new growth area, and Transworld Group has since expanded its services to include logistics management for other sports teams and events.
